Due to recent Covid outbreaks, the lockdown in Ho Chi Minh City and 19 other cities in South Vietnam has been prolonged until the end of August.

Since August 1, local port authorities have stopped the handling of transshipping cargo at Cat Lai port, partially suspending operations for the next two weeks, at minimum.  Yard density at the port has been maxed out at 100% capacity due to limited trucking and port staffing from COVID.  Over 80 vessels idle offshore waiting to berth as both Cat Lai and Cai Mep ports experience 3-5 day delays.

The receipt of import containers has been temporarily stopped at Cat Lai Port, and vessels will only be allowed to access the terminal to load export containers. There are currently no restrictions on export containers; however, if the situation does not improve, the ports may cease receiving vessels and divert them to other smaller ports.

Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP), the largest terminal container operator in Vietnam, released recommendations to shipping lines and customers for new cargo receipt and delivery at Tan Cang Cat Lai Container Terminal (TCCL) over the next few weeks.
