Temporary Pause on Import Deliveries at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport

Extreme delays and wait times at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport have caused some ground service providers to temporarily suspend the acceptance of new air import cargo deliveries this week.

Due to congestion, waiting times, and loading delays, import recoveries from several airlines and ocean handlers are taking an average of 1-3 days.  Domestic carriers advised new cargo deliveries will resume next week after volumes have been reassessed.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport is one of the busiest cargo airports in the United States because of its central location and size, as well as its access to substantial ground transportation and logistics infrastructure and closeness to manufacturing centers.

Alternative handling strategies are being implemented to determine best relief for increasing congestion.
