Green Worldwide Shipping®, a leader in international freight forwarding and global trade solutions, is proud to announce that since the start of our Green Trees program, which began in 2019, Green has donated 200,000 trees to Trees for the Future.

“We are proud to be able to contribute 100,000 trees for each year this program has been in place here at Green Worldwide Shipping,” says Thomas Jorgensen, President & CEO, Green Worldwide Shipping.  “Green would like to express our gratitude and ongoing commitment to our partners, Trees for the Future, for enabling us to plant a tree for every customer, every shipment, every time.”

On average, a Forest Garden offsets 144.64 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per acre over 20 years. The average Forest Garden is 1 acre in size and has 2,500 trees. Green’s 200,000 tree contribution is equivalent to 80 acres, offsetting an average of 11,571.2 metric tons (25,510,129 pounds) of CO2 over 20 years.

WHAT EXACTLY IS A FOREST GARDEN AND ARE THEY UNIQUE TO TREES FOR THE FUTURE?

A Forest Garden is a combination of trees, shrubs, fruits, vegetables, and grains, strategically planted to support one another, the land, and farmers. Forest Gardens are an example of agroforestry, which incorporates trees to protect and improve the soil. As opposed to the common approach to agriculture known as monocropping (planting and harvesting one crop), Forest Gardens are home to a diverse array of species, including food crops and medicinal crops, which allow a farming family to improve their nutrition and stabilize their income. Lastly, Forest Gardens optimize space used in an area and spread harvest across time so that the farmer can get the most out of their land and the growing seasons.

WHAT TYPE OF TREES GET PLANTED?

  • Multi-Purpose Fast-Growing Trees
  • Fruit & Nut Trees
  • Shrubs, Vines & Fruiting Plants
  • Timber Trees
  • Garden & Field Crops

A full detailed list of the trees that are planted through our program is available on our Green Trees page.

WHAT IS CARBON SEQUESTRATION?

Carbon sequestration is a natural process in which organic matter (trees, plants, soil) takes in carbon dioxide and stores the carbon. Trees and healthy soil organic matter are excellent ways of storing carbon over many years, and our approach supports long-term carbon sequestration.

HOW MUCH CARBON DO FOREST GARDENS REMOVE FROM THE ATMOSPHERE?

On average, a Forest Garden offsets 144.64 metric tons of carbon dioxide per acre of land over 20 years.

ABOUT TREES FOR THE FUTURE

Trees for the Future (TREES) is an international development 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that meets a triple bottom line by planting trees for poverty alleviation, hunger eradication, and healing the environment.

Since 1989, TREES has met a significant milestone planting over 200 million trees and helping 150,000+ people.

The 200 million trees are planted in more than 50 countries and they’re all part of thoughtful agroforestry systems. More than 76 million of the trees are part of what TREES calls Forest Gardens, strategically planted in diverse farms consisting of thousands of trees and dozens of plant and food species.
