The Week 17 Freight Market Update finds ongoing challenges with the global supply chain. Forecasts predict an increase in water levels for the Panama Canal water system in the coming weeks.

FINLAND LABOR STRIKE

Several labor unions went on strike at port across Finland this month. The unions have temporarily resumed port operations, but congestion remains an issue while the stevedores process the backlog of containers.

PANAMA CANAL

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) released a new schedule for the number of daily transits. The rainy season is approaching, and the ACP expects to offer 31 transits a day from 16 May 2024, and increase to 32 from 1 June 2024. The canal will operate at approximately 90% capacity.

PORT OF BALTIMORE

Port operations remain strained due to the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse. Officials suggest the port may resume ocean vessel traffic as early as June.
