In this Week 13 Freight Market Update edition, we explore significant developments impacting freight operations across various regions.
BALTIMORE BRIDGE COLLAPSE
Vessel traffic in and out of the Port of Baltimore is suspended indefinitely. Authorities are redirecting all traffic to the Harbor and Fort McHenry Tunnels which both see more than double the amount of traffic already.
CONGESTION AT LE HAVRE TERMINALS
Experiencing gate-in congestion. Potential pass-through charges may apply when additional storage and handling is requested.
CANADIAN WEST COAST PORTS
Facing heavy congestion due to limited Class 1 railcar availability. Expedited rail service in Vancouver is suspended until further notice.
PANAMA CANAL
Water levels are expected to fall to lower levels over the next two months – below 80 feet in early April. Weight restrictions and delays are expected as a result. Some carriers will only accept cargo that weighs less than 8 – 10 tons.
