case study
OVERVIEW
Green Worldwide Shipping’s client, a vertically integrated micro-mobility operator and transportation robotics company that designs, develops, manufactures, and operates technologies for micro-electric scooters, began experiencing a high level of growth across the United States and European Union, with increasing potential for expansion into the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and North America.
Increased demand in these regions necessitated an A-Z logistics approach and international freight transportation that would ensure the sustainable, timely, cost-efficient delivery of tens of thousands of scooters and spare parts to markets around the world.
THE SOLUTION
Green Worldwide Shipping responded with a scalable, efficient global logistics approach. Green’s team of freight forwarding experts handled the ocean and air shipments of the vehicles from the origin in Shanghai, China to warehouses in Rotterdam, Netherlands and Atlanta, Georgia.
Along with handling the transportation of the shipments, our team also facilitated the following processes:
PO Creation
DOC Preparation
Pick Process
Pick QC
Booking
Outbound
Tracking Details
Updates
When the scooters arrived at a warehousing facility, they were unboxed, powered on, tested, automated, and charged in preparation for deployment into the market.
Typical outbound handling was prepared via parcel courier, occasional less-than-truckload (LTL), and overpack for 120 Dangerous Goods (DG) SKUs. Roughly 20% of outbound shipments are expedited deliveries. Occasionally, inter-regional inventory stock transfer was also managed between the distribution center and final delivery locations.
SPARE PARTS COMPONENTSÂ
In addition to the scooters, there were spare parts that needed to be packed and shipped within 24 hours upon arrival at the Green warehousing facility. A box of approximately 10,000 screws for the vehicles were distributed to warehouse locations in California, Utah, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Virginia, Kansas, Illinois, Washington, Oregon, Maryland, Connecticut, and Texas.
SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING
Green’s Atlanta team broke down the extra-large, triple-walled corrugate boxes (“gaylords”) in which the scooters were imported, stored until they were ready to be re-used, then rebuilt for packaging outgoing shipments.
A total of 278 gaylords were repurposed as a result, saving the client substantial packaging costs and contributing to environmental conservation by avoiding over nine 30-cubic-yard recycling dumpsters of corrugate waste.Â
