Today, Nov. 15th, the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach stated that they will postpone consideration of the surcharge for dwelling containers aimed at ocean carriers until November 22, 2021.
The new policy was intended to begin November 1st and stated that ocean carriers would be charged $100 per container. Additionally, both ports would increase the fee in $100 increments per container per day.
The neighboring ports have seen a combined decrease of 26% in aging cargo on the docks, since the fee was declared, back on October 25. This encouraging momentum suggests that the fee’s implementation should be postponed. Evidently, supply chains have been working diligently to expedite cargo movement and reduce the backlog of vessels off the coast quickly.
The ports will be closely monitoring terminal operations data as the new November date approaches.
