Due to a severe winter storm, which began February 11th , a Federal Emergency Declaration was approved by the White House on February 14th for the State of Texas.
Millions of Texans have been without power since early Monday morning and the outages spread beyond Texas into areas in Ohio, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
IMPACT ON SUPPLY CHAINS
Ports
- The Port of Houston announced that all port facilities would be closed to road traffic on Monday, February 15th.
- Public terminals and truck offices will also be closed today, February 16th.
- Additional freight terminals and warehouses throughout Dallas/Fort Worth, Memphis, and Mobile will also be closed today.
Rail
- Rail delays of roughly 72-hours are expected throughout Texas, and northern and central U.S.
- The low temperatures brought on by the storm have caused safety issues with regards to a trains’ braking system.
Roads
- Road travel has also been affected by the snow and ice, causing highway accidents and delays. Road conditions are not expected to improve until at least Friday.
Airports
- George Bush International and William P. Hobby Airports in Houston remain closed today until 1pm CT and 4pm CT respectfully.
- Flight schedules out of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has been cut back and some cargo airline facilities have closed for the day.
